Owls at night

The cold air and owls in the night

Another idea for a card or perhaps part of a bigger print in the future,
formed after hearing the owls calling to each other on a late night dog walk.

Perhaps Mr Reynard should be next as he's always about somewhere........

The first print

The first hand made print using a baren and I'm quite pleased with the image so after a few 'tweaks' to get rid of some unwanted parts of the block that have shown up it will be  on with the next step......using the press to get a stronger picture

My Japanese baren  used for pressing down on the paper and block for a first print, which is an excellent way to see how the image is looking before you commit to the inks, paper and  time at the printing press.

I decided to print a blue background  first as the white background seemed a little harsh, and this is my registration plate made from card with the block in place - basic but effective, I hope!

It worked! The blue background seems to improve the characters.......but I'm wondering about the snow and how well it shows up.
Perhaps I need to think about using watercolour on  the print as making another block to print the snow would be very time consuming..........I need to experiment..

Christmas is coming!

Pencil drawn image

Its that time of year when thoughts turn to Christmas. I've been persuaded by a very supportive and talented friend to show some stages of the lino cut process for a possible Christmas card........so here goes.

First the image....... boxing hares are a favourite of mine so why not in snow?

My lovely pfeil block cutters, all  ready to start

Half way through - will the image work?
