The first print

The first hand made print using a baren and I'm quite pleased with the image so after a few 'tweaks' to get rid of some unwanted parts of the block that have shown up it will be  on with the next step......using the press to get a stronger picture

My Japanese baren  used for pressing down on the paper and block for a first print, which is an excellent way to see how the image is looking before you commit to the inks, paper and  time at the printing press.

I decided to print a blue background  first as the white background seemed a little harsh, and this is my registration plate made from card with the block in place - basic but effective, I hope!

It worked! The blue background seems to improve the characters.......but I'm wondering about the snow and how well it shows up.
Perhaps I need to think about using watercolour on  the print as making another block to print the snow would be very time consuming..........I need to experiment..
